Jan's Dough: Create Sourdough Starter Recipe
|
Have you got a whole day of baking planned? Or do you want to make a
coffee cake first thing in the morning to have for a pleasant brunch (or
just to surprise the family with something fresh-baked and delightfully
warm from the oven)?
Then you need to prepare the night before! Review the recipe(s) that you will be using in the morning, or the next day. Measure sugar, flour, and any other dry ingredient, and then store in a tightly sealed container (I prefer Pyrex glass storage containers that are available at Wal-Mart or Target). You can also put the measured ingredients into bowls and cover tightly with plastic wrap (I prefer Saran plastic wrap). Check your available supply of eggs, butter, milk, and any other perishable items to make sure you have enough for everything you are going to bake. If you will be baking very early in the morning, you can leave butter and eggs out on the counter, overnight. The butter will be soft and the eggs will be room temperature at the time of mixing the ingredients. Gather all the baking tools and utensils that you will need. Set up and/or assemble any appliances that you'll be using. Dig out whatever baking dishes that you'll need. If you are baking coffee cake at oh-dark-thirty the next morning or you've got a charity bake sale to prepare for, you'll be very glad everything has been pre-measured! |
