Ways to Use Applesauce

Applesauce can be used in a variety of ways---other than just eating it! You can make your own applesauce (see Cooking with Poppo recipe for Mom's Applesauce: http://jansdough.janktheproofer.com/Applesauce.htm) or you can use applesauce that you purchase at the market (buy the "no sugar added" kind if you are health-conscious or have to control your sugar intake).

Use applesauce to sweeten oatmeal! Don't spoon on brown sugar or honey---use applesauce! After your oatmeal is cooked, stir in approximately two tablespoons of applesauce, let sit for a couple of minutes, then eat! The added applesauce gives cooked oatmeal a delightful texture and taste. If desired, add some raisins, too!

Rediscover cottage cheese! Add applesauce to a 1/2 cup of fat free cottage cheese---and enjoy!

Applesauce makes a nice side dish to pork! Try it---you'll be surprised how nicely the two complement each other.

Looking for a light snack? Need something that's either sweet or crunchy? Why not get both? Sprinkle Grape Nuts onto a small bowl of applesauce, let it sit a minute so that the Grape Nuts soften a bit---and then enjoy!

Learn to think outside the box and use applesauce as the basis for snacks or meal side dishes!
