How to Keep Baking Dishes and Roasting Pans Clean

We've all had to clean up after baking or roasting something in the oven---and it can get pretty messy! If you haven't already thought about it, here's a great idea for saving yourself as much mess as possible.

Before baking or roasting, line the dish or pan with at least two layers of aluminum foil (I prefer Reynold's). I like to spread the aluminum foil length-wise, and then I second layer it width-wise. If you are using a fairly large pan or cookie sheet to bake or re-heat something, then I use aluminum foil to create a "shallow pan" inside the larger pan or cookie sheet.

After baking/roasting, you can lift out whatever it is you cooked, and then peel out the aluminum foil---and thrown 95% of the mess away! (But don't forget to drain out the liquid if you are making gravy!)

The residue that is left in the baking dish or roasting pan can be easily cleaned by squirting in some dish detergent and then filling the dish/pan with hot water. In fact, add a little boiling water to assist the detergent in doing its job. Allow to stand for about 30 minutes. Most everything now should wipe out with a nylon scrub pad.
